More than 50 International Students participated in a Cueca Lesson taught by Paula Alvarado, UVM student, and Cristian Zepeda, member of a folk dance group. This lesson is an anticipation of the activities for the celebration of Chile’s National Day, September 18th.
Cueca is a traditional folk dance of Chile. A courtship dance known since the period of Spanish colonization, it is danced to the rapid, rhythmic music of guitars. The dancing couple pursue and retreat, pass and circle about each other, twirling handkerchiefs as they dance.
