OIIE Volunteers visit the Ministry of Education Regional Office

On Wednesday, May 12, students from the Universidad de Viña del Mar’s International Office who are volunteering for the English Opens Doors Program visited the Ministry of Education Regional Office and met the Coordinator of the program in Valparaíso, Mónica Fernández.

The English Opens Doors (EOD) program is a joint effort of the Chilean government and the United Nations Development Program – Chile to improve English education in Chile’s public school system. The program allows students studying abroad at local Chilean universities to volunteer 4 to 16 hours per week as teaching assistants to Chilean EFL teachers. Because the program is government and UN run, participating in this program will not only give the students a cultural volunteer experience, but it will also serve as a valuable resumé-builder.

While meeting with the EOD director, the students were able to discuss what is expected of them during their time as a volunteer, and to share their experiences so far in their classrooms.
