Gracias for welcoming us to Chile. We represent the University of Hawaii, and we are very excited to have the opportunity to study Spanish and Chilean culture in your wonderful country. There are 27 students here, with varying abilities in Spanish, but all of us hope to return to Hawaii with our Spanish greatly improved, and with new experiences, new friends, and maybe even new plans for the future.
For many students, this semester will be a rare chance to actually live in another country. For some, this trip is their first outside of the U.S. And some have traveled to many places in the world. Regardless of our backgrounds, we have in common the desire to learn about places and peoples different from our own, to improve our understanding of the world and our place therein. As we mature into the next generation of leaders and teachers in our country, it will be experiences such as this that will contribute to our ability to create a positive legacy, one based on respect, cooperation, and understanding.
With great enthusiasm, we hope to experience the best Chile has to offer – experiences that will be savored for years to come. We encourage you to contact us via the international office with any questions or comments regarding our programs, if you would like to meet a native English speaker or to help someone learn Spanish, or if you're interested in any of our future excursions here in Chile. Thank you.
